Large waste water treatment plants are the most important contributors to water quality improvement worldwide. With increasing population in congested urban areas, these plants have become indispensable to protect surface and ground water for drinking water supply.
This traditional conference aims to promote the exchange of experience and knowledge in waste water treatment between designers, managers, operators and scientists on an international level. Co-operation of these experts is the main prerequisite for successful future investments in sustainable water quality management.

Proposed Themes: 

• Overall case studies of large wastewater treatment plants
• Design of large wastewater treatment plants
• Operation of the wastewater treatment plant process
• Sludge treatment and management
• Costs and economics
• Innovative wastewater treatment technologies

Additionally a workshop “Utility Management” will be part of the programme. It will include the following topics:

• Governance
• Benchmarking
• Asset management
• Safety management
• Knowledge management, education and training
• Automation versus personal costs
• Disposal of residuals
• Centralised or decentralised services for large wastewater utilities

A post-conference course on “Activated Sludge Modelling” will be held on 14-15 September 2007 at Vienna University of Technology.
